Peter Matthews “An image in orbit”

Stepping into the Pacific Ocean, Taiwan during a winter storm with a video camera attached to a length of rope, through the action of generating enough speed and pull, the camera orbits itself in an ever increasing distance of reach. Motivated to capture and record the mystical and changing elements of the ocean and universe in its constant state of flux, unpredictable and unseen images are pulled from the camera’s footage as it seeks to push out there and travel beyond the everyday limits of perception and reach. What of what had been lost can be found again. To travel to the edge of some place and time still unexplored in this world and bring back a fragment of this new visual information in a pursuit to understand where we are and where we might be going.
